Anyone want a cup of tea? How about a mug?

I have just seen the first ever Positive Action in Housing mugs.  Give me a few days and I will get some photos up on our website and if you want to buy one, we'll have info on that too! I do not drink Tea or Coffee, but I am going to start, now that I will be able to stroll around the office with a good looking Mug.

There have been many issues highlighted this week in the media; we have heard about the "Alternative to Detention" Pilot project, which will aim to reduce the amount of young people & Children being held at Dungavel Detention Centre in Scotland; The numbers of people suffering from Destitution in Scotland; Young Sufyan from Drumchapel High speaking about what is like in Dungavel Detention Centre and now we have been hearing of yesterday's Dawn Raid on Fatou Felicite Gaye and four-year-old Arouna.

Seems a bit of a joke that, for the whole week, we have been hearing how traumatising detention centres are for children and then the Home Office decides to smash through the door of a single mother, living with her son, in the early hours of the morning, drag them into a van and take them to a Detention Centre. The Unity Centre has reported that this is the first Dawn Raid in a year. The bottom line is that Asylum Seekers still live with the fear of Dawn Raids, Detention, Deportation and Destitution because the Home Office uses it to control people.

Refugee week is coming up soon and many people will be focusing on the positive contribution Refugees have and continue to make in Scotland. It's just a shame that so many people who have contributed so much still find themselves living in a limbo land, hoping that the next knock on their door isn't 10 immigration officers.

We will keep you updated on how things progress, so keep an eye on our Website (www.paih.org). If you have any views or comments, I would be interested in reading them, so email me, Jamie
