Noon Just email text to: Quickmail@paih.org Hey, I know it's refugee week and there are lots of things on this week, but I am only going to talk about one event. The rest can be found in order of best to not so good (kidding) at the bottom of this Quickmail.
The Glasgow Summer Sleepout 2008 will be on Thursday, 19th June 2008 from 7pm. If you do not want to sleepout all night, then you can still come to the vigil until 10pm. We are encouraging people to raise money for Positive Action in Housing's Destitution Fund, which is currently giving out up to £1500 a month to Refugees who have been left destitute in Scotland.
If you wish to make a donation in support of the event, please visit www.paih.org and use our supercool, supersecure, paypal feature!
I hope to see you all at the sleepout (12,000 people wouldn't be a bad turn out) on Thursday. Email sleepout@paih.org if you are coming and bring me a sandwich or something because I will probably not have had time to eat, Jamie
(For the record, 'Sleepout', 'supercool', 'supersecure' and 'paypal' are not recognised as words in my spellcheck. Neither is 'recognised' or 'spellcheck for some reason, but life must go on).

Sleepout focus on asylum plight
Glasgow Summer Sleepout 2008
Positive Action in Housing is organising its 2nd Annual Sleepout in Glasgow City centre on Thursday 19 June 2008 from 7pm, on George Square.
We are encouraging our supporters and members to take part in a sleepout to highlight the plight of hundreds of people refused asylum who are being deliberately made destitute in Glasgow by government policy. This attempt to try to force people to leave this country is not working, and carries a devastating human cost. Read More... Positive Action in Housing has launched a free, interactive, online resource: Tackling Racist Incidents – A Toolkit for Scottish Housing Providers available at www.challengeracism.com
The toolkit is the result of our collaborative work with new migrant, refugee, asylum seeker and minority ethnic communities who have experienced racial harassment and a working party of housing providers. The toolkit and its guidance are clear and user friendly offering: practical advice, an overview of responsibilities and best practice examples, model policies, template forms, current legislation.
For paper copies of posters further guidance in taking action or to discuss training on tackling racist incidents or please contact Positive Action in Housing on 0141 353 2220 or by emailing david@paih.org. Welcome? DVD ‘Welcome?’
is a DVD compilation that contains five short films that show the
effects of the UK’s policies and offer practical suggestions on
doing something about it.
The
Welcome DVD is free for asylum seekers/refugees and people on low
incomes. Otherwise we ask for a donation. Some suggested donations
are £15 for individuals and £75 for organisations. £15
will pay for one night hostel accommodation, £5 will pay for food
for a day and £75 will help pay for a week’s accommodation.
Money raised will directly support destitute asylum seekers. For multiple copies please telephone 0141 353 2220 to discuss, before ordering or email quickmail@paih.org or visit www.paih.org for more details. DIRECTORY
